Youth remanded over baby death

A 16-year-old boy has appeared in court accused of the murder of a baby girl.

The youth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, but lives in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, appeared before magistrates in Norwich accused of killing 11-month-old Ruby Spink on September 16.

He was remanded in custody until October 1.

His next appearance will be before a judge at Norwich Crown Court.

The teenager spoke only to confirm his personal details.

Ruby's mother, 18-year-old Laura Spink, also of Great Yarmouth, appeared at the same court accused of causing or allowing her daughter's death.

She was also remanded in custody until October 1 and was next due to appear at Norwich Crown Court.

Ruby died in hospital after paramedics were called to an address in Great Yarmouth on September 16.

Post-mortem tests showed that she had died from head injuries.
