White Plains Changes Policy, Will Notify Neighbors of Sex Offenders

The City of White Plains will start notifying local residents when registered sex offenders move into town. Mayor Joseph Delfino is to make the announcement Friday, two weeks after residents learned a convicted child rapist had been living near a busy school bus stop.

That bus stop has since been moved a few blocks away. The policy change comes after several residents of the city's Battle Hill neighborhood attended a recent Common Council meeting to demand that people be informed about registered sex offenders.

Most police departments in the Hudson Valley notify school districts, neighbors and other interested parties when a registered sex offender moves into the community.
