Sex Often Takes A Back Seat To The Internet, Study Suggests

A recent survey suggests that a sizeable percentage of Americans are willing to forgo sex and socializing to spend more time online.

The study was conducted earlier this month by JWT, the fourth largest advertising agency in the world. It explored the computer habits of approximately 1,000 online Americans.

One in four respondents reported spending less time socializing with friends because of the Internet, and one in five reported having less time for sex.

Twenty-two percent, however, said that their love affair with the Web was helping them get more work done.

„It's clear that there's been a huge cumulative shift in what we do and what we pay attention to, thanks to new technologies,“ said Bob Jeffrey, chairman and CEO of JWT, in a written statement.

In addition to making less time for friends and sexual partners, nearly half attributed a declining interest in newspapers, magazines and the radio to their Internet use.
